Gums and Dis - ease

Here’s something most people are totally unaware of: Chronic gum disease can lead to heart disease.
The bacteria causing the gum disease just doesn’t stay in the mouth. Each time you swallow, some of that enters the stomach, and some of that finds its way into the blood stream.
These bacteria cause inflammation in our veins and arteries, which causes an increase in cholesterol plaque to combat the pitting and scarring that’s happening. Over time, this chronic inflammatory process creates a blockage in the vessels – and as a result more serious things can occur.
Researchers have found people with periodontal (gum) disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those without it.
So, when you brush and floss, remember you’re just not protecting your oral hygiene, but your entire circulatory system as well!
